Every time I try to download the EPG to my VU+, either on USB or HDD, I have a crash and no EPG is left afterwards.

I am wondering if there is a limit to the amount of packages one can add to the file. I want almost all packages: crash. Four or five: no problem. Plenty of room on USB and also on HDD.

Anyone an idea?

Which image? How do you import? How much data?

Since Enigma2 stores EPG data in memory (and not on disk or stick), there is a limit to how much EPG you can load.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

I use the latest PLI. otherwise I would not have asked it here :) I import it through either XMLetc or CrossEPG. And I add about ten packages because i can see things from those countries with the Wave. Your answer helps because I now know what might be the problem: memory of the Vu. I will look for a solution.

I have the same issue on several Vu+ Duo boxes. The only solution I could find is to reduce the number off epg packages to download.
And reduce the number of days for long descriptions.

I have tried it on several Vu+Duo boxes always with the latest Pli build installed.

There is no crash log, after a while the spinners start and about 10 minutes later enigma2 crashes and restarts.

I will add a enigma2 log. Created while updating EPG packages Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden and UK and 4 days of long descriptions.

If I run the same number off packages but start with an empty epg (delete the old epg.dat first) then there is no crash. Adding more packages always crashes.

Could it be an issue with the cache file size?

the log from where the spinners start.it got to the Sweden epg there it stopped. As an attachment the entire log.

Strange thing is that when the spinners start I see these TuxTxt: readerror. I did not see these messages earlier. The box was not used for anything it was on NED1 HD but had not touched the remote to get txt or anything else.

EPG is stored in RAM. Loading too much will eat all RAM, and thus crash your system. (The epg.dat on disk is only to store EPG across reboots, and has no function whatsoever while the system is running).

Since you cannot plugin more RAM into the box, you'll indeed have to limit the amount you download.

The solution is without a doubt (I have eperience in it...) to add a swap file on a USB stick to the system. Ever since doing that my EPG works like a charm!

How do you add a swap file on Pli Image?
