Any suggestions on the appropriate tool to use to create .mvi files from .jpg?

I'm using Ubuntu 10+ but have access to a Windoze machine if I have to...

Many thanks

Jules

Thanks Pedro_Newbie.

Now, can anyone tell me why we have to use such an unusual format? I would expect normal .jpg or .png to be supported and am really surprised that .mvi is being used for what's basically a static image.

An mvi is basically a 1-frame MPEG file, which is what the hardware of your box can deal with.
It is displayed like a recording of which the last frame stays visible, giving the illusion of a still image.

To display images like png or jpeg, you need all kinds of support software, which isn't available when the box boots.

I think we use ffmpeg to generate the mvi from a still image.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

OK, I think I figured it out with a little help...

Make sure you have a 1280x720 jpeg. Example: mypicture.jpg.

$ ffmpeg -i mypicture.jpg -r 25 -b 20000 -s hd720 mypicture.m1v
$ mv mypicture.m1v mypicture.mvi

FTP up to box on /media/hdd/bootlogos and fire up the logomanager... :D

Oh no, it's my last post until today 17:22 (I guess some kind of spam reduction policy)

Further testing has shown that any 16:9 image will show correctly without the need to force the size to 1280x720, so just

$ ffmpeg -i mypicture.jpg -r 25 -b 20000 mypicture.m1v
$ mv mypicture.m1v mypicture.mvi

where my mypicture.jpg is any jpeg with a 16:9 aspect ratio.

FTP to /media/hdd/bootlogos...

That really works great , can setup a batch file.

thanks

BTW, the new openpli (or multiboot) puts in /boot a link to directory /usr/share/bootlogo.mvi
