Due to the kernel and flash filesystem changes, online update is not possible. You need to reflash the box if your current image is dated before december 30, 2011...

Thanks,

and I wish you a happy new year.

What is the best way to update to the new image?
Is there a recommendet way so save and restore all settings and plugins?
I would really hate to start from scratch.
TIA
Umtauscher

Use autobackup to backup your settings (and automatically restore them).

Hi
Yesterday i upgraded the sw on my VU+ DUO as i do once a week. I got a message on the screen that i was running an "Unsafe" Beta and was asked if i wanted to upgrade the kernel. I answered "Yes"... and continued the upgrade. After reboot the reciever got stuck with "Starting..." on the screen.

I made a re-flash this morning. I tried both the last "Nightly Build" and the one before that. (OpenPLi-2.1-beta-vuduo-20120101_usb.zip and OpenPLi-2.1-beta-vuduo-20111231_usb.zip) The flash procedure works flawless, although it takes quite a bit longer than it used to, but after reboot the VU+ duo is stuck on "Starting.." again.

I can see that there is an issue with VU+ DUO, whick points me to this very thread.

Does anyone have a hint on how to solve this?

Best regards

Waara

You have to update the bootloader as well for the new image.
See this post for instructions.
Hope that helps

How do you backup and reinstall all Plugins?
I tried Autobackup and autoinstall but that only restores settings not the plugins used.
Could I just copy /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins and then paste it back after reflash?

Restore works just fine. I created autoinstall file on my USB stick yesterday and receiver properly recognized it and installed all plugins!

Yeah, it worked last time I flashed the 2.1 release, but not this time.
I don´t know why but all thats backed up is the settings from /root/etc.

However, I manually copied back all plugins and got everything working after a little tweaking. :)

bootloaders are hardware specific, so it depends on what you mean by 'all boxes'...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

After reading all posts regarding this upgrade i think i'll wait a while. Sad though that all the other SW-updates won't work beacuse this info about that i'm having an "unsafe" beta and question if i'd like to upgrade comes first in line. If i answer "No", the upgrade halts.
