Today I had a report of a user who tried them (dm8000) that it didn't boot properly, so I am a bit hesitant.

When the user ist only installing the new drivers WITHOUT the new kernel and mixing them with old ones from PLi feed - he is simply NOT understanding what he does wrong and there is no need to hesitate.
IF you know what you are doing, and replace kernel AND entire lib/modules with the new ones from an original OE 2.0 image it boots nicely and you can even backup a PLi image with ubifs and realize how fast it would be if you would let it be :-)

Okay clear, it's not only a driver change like I thought. That means a bit more work here.

Maybe, but for trying out it takes me less then 5 min to download an original OE 2.0 image from today, extract the /lib/modules and /boot and copy into your image to see that it boots nicely.
And it then takes me only another 10min to backup it with ubifs and flash it :-)

But then again you're not OpenPLi

Don't get me wrong, the new drivers will end up in OpenPLi, I'm just saying it's a bit more work because we build our own kernel, so it may take a few days...

maybe not all ideas of gutemine are good for the box - maybe all other things are responsible - can not estimate this...
maybe it is better to wait a while...

Maybe you are not ware that all other boxes are using ubifs, so there is nothing 'bad' about it. Maybe you are not knowing that jffs2 development is dead and thousands of different devices (inlcuding lots of Smartphones where people are taking out batteries on a regular basis) are using ubifs now, which is continuously developed.

Yes no need to convince OpenPLi of the value of ubifs

gutemine thinks a simple "y" in kernelconfig is enough in pli (???)
maybe someone could inform him that it is not enough and this would take some time to do the other changes (he could ask some imagemaker who is fighting two days now with compiling a working pli-image with ubifs)
