A backslash in linux is an escape character, so if you want to use that, you'll need two backslashes (one escaping the second). But I don't think that's the issue.

Just tried it here, from a VUDUO to a Windows 2012 server (which has the same IP and SMB stack as Windows 8), and it works without problems.

Since you're using OpenPLi 2.1, which has an older samba version then OpenPLi 3, all I can assume is that Windows 8 (by default) requires a higher protocol version then samba can support. You can try adding "port=445" to the "-o" part of the mount command, or else see if google knows how to enable smb over netbios on Windows 8...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Tried "port=445" no mount.

The ability of another of my Win8 machines (Win8 Laptop) to allow a mount from my DM800 indicates that it is not Win8 itself but one or more settings not correct on my Win8 PC. I have compared the settings I know about and they are the same.

Tried the Mount command from my DM7020HD (OpenPli 3.0) and had same results, no mount.

I have searched the forums for Win8 support on this problem but nothing I tried seems to fix the issue. I will keep searching but any advice or hints are appreciated.

Possible, but the big question is which settings, as you can access the mount from the laptops without problems.

The Windows 2012 server I tried was installed a few days ago, nothing configured or changed. I just created C:\test and added a share called "test", and used on my VUDUO:

mkdir /media/test
mount -t cifs //172.16.1.32/test /media/test -o username=testuser

Which prompted for the password and then made the mount. So I'm lost for the moment...

Well I made some progress, I started from scratch and started with the basics. At the start of this problem search I turned off my MacAfee firewall and did some checks but no mount. I went back today and reviewed my firewall settings and noticed that “Firewall, Settings, Ports and System Services” page was blank. It should list open and closed ports etc.. I used McAfee “Restore Defaults” and it reinstalled about 14 default entries in “Ports and System Services”.

My only excuse is that I assumed that turning off the Firewall would completely eliminate McAfee as a possible cause of the mount problem. I was wrong.

The mount now works fine as it should.

I am a little embarrassed that it was such a simple issue and I took up a lot of time and goodwill from the forum members that helped me. Sorry and Thanks to all.
