I have been experimenting with many images on my solo2. I am very much impressed with timeshift feature included in openpli4 with a lot of options in record menu like 'save timeshift till current time'. It also has a new style seek bar when in timeshift mode. But the problem I am facing at the moment is overheating the solo2. I am using glass utilities to monitor the temperature. Although I don't see any bad behavior by the box during high temperatures which could be 48c to 50c or some times beyond that. I have checked the temperature in other images like openvix and it remains about 41c to 43c which is acceptable but temperature like 50c or above is worrying. I have stopped using PLi image due to this issue and decided to stick with OpenVix but I still miss the brilliant timeshift feature in OpenPLi. I have not found this feature in any of the other images. I would like to come back to OpenPLi if somebody advices me how to fix this overheating issue or is there any other way of using OpenPLi timeshift plugin on OpenVix ?

I removed the nasty font layout. Please just use the default font layout.

Timeshift means most likely the harddisk is running and that causes the heat....

Hi,

I´m sure the reason for the high temperature is not OpenPLi. When I ran a Solo2, the box was only "hand warm". Even after a few hours of operating, and Permanent Time Shift was always "on".

Maybe some of images do not show the correct temperature.

First of all thanks for replying.....

Actually I am using usb for timeshifting, epg and picons so the HDD is mostly sleeping unless I start manual recording which is obviously on HDD, so it is definitely some thing else. I can even feel the box overheating by touching it because I also thought that it could be the glass utilities showing wrong temperature. There is also one thing to mention here is that the cpu usage in OpenPLi is disabled while in Openvix Glass utilities shows the usage like 7% or  20% thats why i can not even say that it is because of high cpu usage.

It completely depends on where the temperature is measured. 50˙C air temperature may be worrying, on the sillicon die it's completely unimpressive.

Is there a way to get the OpenPLi timeshift plugin working in OpenVix with the same features ?

Have you installed fancontrol2 plugin to enable and control build in fan?

Its 29C in my location and solo box temp:

with timeshift auto on.

Thanks  everyone I have managed to control the temperature by installing fancontrol2, but OpenPLi coders really need to include a built-in plugin to address the temperature issue or fancontrol option like OpenVix becuase not everyone keeps an eye on temperature all the time and high temperature could damage either the box or the HDD. Any way I am going back to OpenPLi because of timeshift feature the way I like it.

If the temperature would really get too high, the box will switch off (build in security).

But I agree: I always use FC2 to get an automated, stable (and low) temperature.

If you want a long, prosper life for your harddisk, your STB isn't the best place to put it in in the first place ;)

And even fancontrol2 is not really helping. E.g. When enigma2 crashes or hangs the fan cannot be controlled anymore..... Then the only good option would be constantly fan on or a pure hardware controlled fan...

That's just a minor issue. When E2 crashes, it will restart. When E2 hangs, it won't be using the harddisk, so the disk should go down on its own.
And neither crash nor hang should happen, I tend to have at least one box running 24/7 for several weeks without restarting it.

I have FC2 running on multiple boxes for years and never had any issue at all. And via the graphical interface one can clearly see the temperature indeed being as low as set in the plugin-settings.

Hello,

I have a solo2 too, and sometimes its very hot, with a internal hdd in my case an ssd vertex, and yesterday i installed FC2, and my question is what configuration you use @SatKiekerd or someone else, the default settings or other, in default settings the fan makes some noise.

This is how I configured;

1- Fantype ----> 4pin

2- Min Speed RPM -------> 1000/1500 rpm

Now the temperature never go above 43
