As usually it is installed as soon you install a softcam via our feeds.... That's how it is made.... But why do you need a custom cam?

Hi,

Severals reasons:
- I use softcam that are not in your feeds
- I switch between softcams to do testing.
- I backup my softcams (a simple .tgz file containing all the files) then install the new image and then I restore the softcam.

I was really thinking that since Softcam Setup is in the menu of Openpli by default it doesn't require any external feeds .ipk to work.
I agree that most end-users are simply downloading the softcam from the feeds (many are lost when they need to install a softcam manually), so most users doesn't have this problem, but I am still convinced that softcam-setup should be active in the default build. This doesn't harm anything in the Openpli image if it is there and this will be consistent with the Openpli menu. :)

If you install it manually then you can also use opkg to install the extra required packages... The standard is no softcam that is why it should not be there by default. there isn't even a /etc/init.d/softcam to start there.

Is it only my setup or is the option mentioned in this commit completely missing in Menu -> System -> Settings ?
Worth mentioning is that applying the "echo "hold" /proc/stb/video/zapmode" command is working fine.

I`m running the most recent OpenPLi 3.0 for VU Uno.

I totally agree with you than in standard image Menu: Softcam / Common Interface
Should only display: Common Interface
And not: Common Interface and Softcam Setup...

The fact that menu: Softcam Setup... is there is not standard, so it should not be there. You need to be coherent with your standard.

hmm, are you sure?
AFAIK in vu+ it's /proc/stb/video/zapping_mode
and this little diferrence makes this menu entry unavailable in customize menu on vu boxes...

OK, then question is, why the package: softcam-support is not installed by default in the image (the one that creates the K50softcam and S50softcam).

It is automatically installed when you install the "Custom" softcam, which - as I wrote before - was intended especially for what you are doing.

Since in the GUI the menu is already there, I was expecting to have it properly working out-of-the-box.

That's what I wanted, but approached from the other side: The option should not be there unless you ask for it.

The softcam selection plugin was not intended to be installed by default, because the menu item isn't useful for 99% of the users who only use a single softcam. But there were too many people unable to find their so beloved menu item when it had to be installed manually, that it finally got installed by default.

@blzr it is "zapping_mode" indeed - I was typing while being away from the box.
But the core of the problem remains: the option is not available under Menu -> Setup -> System Settings -> Other Settings.

OK maybe I was not precise enough - recent means updated regulary...
Why should I run an outdated software and check the development on GIT???

@blzr @Frogman: could you please confirm that this option is available for you?

well, I know what did you mean...
//and no, this option is not present on my vuduo as well ;)
and just like I wrote it's because of this different vu's naming, setup it through menu entry is not available...
SystemInfo["ZapMode"] = os.path.exists("/proc/stb/video/zapmode")

so, either vuplus will change it (extremely doubtful),
or PLi will patch e2 for vu (they should be used to it, but, again?... :P)
or you still will be able to change it manually or using third party zappingmodeselection plugin
